Stew has a weird smirk like he's in hog heaven.
Looks really nice. Bet it sounds just as good. Just one question, where are the strap buttons on those? Never really noticed before, but are they on the back or something?
they are on the back of the upper horn and the bottom edge, in the middle.
thanks for the great comments. thanks especially to John Turner for posting the pic. I've had the bass for some time, but the one previous shot I had was pretty weak. ever since then I've had problems uploading from here!
the bass is passive with the only controls being a standby switch and a pickup selector for the Bartolini soapbars. the tuning is indeed 4ths, from low F# (around 23Hz) to a high F natural. the neck is a combination of maple and purlpeheart with an undyed ebony fretboard. the body wings are walnut with wenge tops. the headstock cap is wenge, too. the scale length is 34" and there are 25 frets on the board so I get an even 5 octave of range BEFORE figuring in harmonics.
the tone is amazing! beautiful highs, tight lows, and nice dark lower mids with as much bite or sweetness as my hands can get at any given moment. Bill Conklin has made me the bass of my dreams (well, one of 3 total that he's going to do for me) and Mark Wright's AccuGrooves are letting the whole palette of its sound SING!
with any luck there will be some sound samples available soon!
from the low end,
Philbiker thinks about string muting .....
How about some sound clips?
Nice looking bass, but far too many strings for my mediocre abilities!
so, what are the three basses going to be? we have this one, and i'm guessing a fretless 8, and what else?
