Chicago land luthier

Discussion in 'Hardware, Setup & Repair [BG]' started by Bassstud1, Oct 6, 2001.

  1. Looking for a Chicago land luthier to fret my NEW Musicman 5. Duh that's right I spent a lot of money on a fretless bass and I need it fretted.
At least the first 7 or 9 frets. Any suggestions?
Does around $150 sound right for this work?

Call or visit Front Porch Music over in Valpo - they're an acoustic store, but they are friendly and probably can give you a referral.

  3. Hugh McFarland. He lives in the City of Chicago, near Western and Diversey, and is one of the best luthiers I have seen in the area. He was Dan Lakin's partner in creating Lakland (not any longer). I don't have his phone number handy, but if you call lakland, or send Dan Lakin an email (you can find his email address at www.lakland.com), he'll give you Hugh's phone number.

    Hey Heavy Duty

It was good to meet you at the Elgin Guitar show! I was a bit preoccupied with the traffic around my booth, so I'm sorry I couldn't spend more time talkin to ya.

Same here! I know you were busy trying to run your table - you were there to sell, not yack. Hope it went well for you...

When I was living up there, I trusted all of my work to Bob Gorny of Gorny Custom Guitars on Belmont. Nice guy who does beautiful work. He refretted my old Precision when I had it.
