    Hi guys.

As a chick bass player Ive just about had it with the jokes and inuendos about "chick bassists".

Why is this though? Why is it that girls tend to play bass more than electric guitar?

Is it linked to the saying that we play bass because people think its easier and we're too dumb to play guitar? (I think all bass players get this rap)

I think more girls should get out there and play. :bassist:

In her '95 Bass Player interview, Meshell Ndegeocello relates it to the mothering instinct... It's all about support, warmth, and 'making you feel good'... One woman's opinion...

who cares why girls play bass? why do some guys play the flute? WHO CARES? if you are so worried about what people think you may just mite be as shallow as the person passing judgement.i posted a thread last week about how some people go as far as worrying about what color to get a bass in that they ask for approvel or validation of what color is "IN" or is now "OUT".playing music(any inst)is about expression of ones self, and a instrument no matter what make, model, color,# of strings, year, finish ETC.will convey the emotion or situation intended by the performer.i play bass for me,not because its cool or hip,but because i like to express myself through music.and i would'nt let anyone comprimise my love of music.period end of discussion.and neither should you or any one else who feels be-littled or stigmatized due to gender.be proud of yourself and play that bass THAT MUCH LOUDER.:bassist:

Oh please, leave the frigging gender thing alone! Who cares you are a girl? If you point it out like that, you will have more problems with the male attitude than when you just grap your bass abnd play!

And in answer to the guitar vs bass thing with females:who says there are more females playing bass than guitar? Loads of females play the guitar because they want to accompany them selfes while singing.
There aren't just many Jennifer Batten kind of female guitarists out there.

This stuff always gets me so frustrated that I want to shove my bass (wich is a 6 string, so it doesn't fit easily:D) into a dark hole of the person who starts a conversation/thread like this.

    PS
This is not ment in a personal offending way to the person that started this thread.Just expressing some frustrations here...;)

    One more thing:
I am a bloody female who plays bass and guitar (and not 4 chords so I can acompany myself while singing).
Does this make me some frigging alien?

    Love

Girls, guys, whatever! It really doesnt matter, so these kinds of threads are pretty pointless... I know theirs plenty of chicks that can play bass lines that i cant touch, but i really just think of them as bass players. I think that people DO use attraction as a marketting asset with bands, however i think it would be REALLY stupid to have good looking musicians in the band just because of that. I would much rather see a talented band than a good looking band, thats for sure. Eye candy is not the issue, you shouldnt listen to the people that say those kinds of things. If they think youre eye candy then thats great, but its not why your there and you should tell them so. Just play your bass and dont let it bug you.

Just like the other threads of this nature, this one has held true and made people frustrated.

I say it again, these type of threads have very little to offer and often wind up as arguments, flame wars, or just a big bitch session.

Gee I didnt mean to turn it into an argument.

In case you didnt know, I was bagging out girls coz Im a girl too..

No I only really started this topic because my boyfriend is a guitarist and hes been playing for quite a while. But for some reason he has no faith in my musical abilities at all. If I stuff something up he blames it on me being a girl. And because he just sees me as being another chick bass player he doesnt expect much from me!

    I think hes just jealous!

  13. *guilty* this 12 year old girl that must be less then 100lbs, confronted me about being a drummer in my band, and i just blurted out no, just because i assumed she would have low playing stamina...also because shes so young, and because i doubted she would be serious, and because my parents wouldnt allow her to stay in my room all night, i ended up giving her a chance, but was very strict as to requirments because of those reasons. am i a typical crap guy? or was my skepticalism justified?

    BING BING BING! :)

  17. Guitarists are most likely to become A-holes out of musicians, because todays society buts the guitar way out in front, but bassists(especially) are just kinda there, not as much with drummers, but sometimes them too
