choosing strings wisely

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by katri, Apr 23, 2006.

  1. hello all,
i am just wondering if anybody could help me choose what strings to buy i play in a pop punk type band and i have a basic idea of what i want/need in a string:
*4 string quite heavy gauge (105-45/110-50 ish)
*high tension because i play in a drop tuning(C#G#C#F#) the strings start to get floppy.
*a bright sound as i play upbeat music

thats about it i dont mind what they are made from and it would be an extra if they are coated or sumthing
    thanks
    dan

Maybe Hi Beams - I had some on my bass, the first few weeks it was bright (way too bright for me...)

Coated stuff usually isn't as bright, just fair warning...

  3. daddario pro steels are very bright, come in loads of gauges you can work out the tention u want for ur bass on there website, with differnt length strings, and they have always worked brilliantly for me!

  4. GHS Boomers .050-.115
Bright, Big Low end, Punchy, Quite good with Drop D here.
I use them on my J Bass

  5. do they hold tension at lower tunings?

DR Highbeams are the greatest. I've tried everything and I aways go back to them.
