How does everyone here choose what to play or practice? I mean, do you listen to a certain genre or do you grab basslines from any and everywhere? Sometimes, even the worst songs have interesting basslines.

And one more thing, how is bass terminology "made"? Who comes up with certain words? Sometimes I read or hear someone describe a bass line one way and I think to myself "I would have used ______ to describe it" (same thing applies to the drums... the terminology is unorthodox in my humble opinion). I can give an example for the interested.

I prefer to practice things that increase my understanding of theory and harmony, like scales and modes.

I also like to practice technique oriented stuff too, like 16ths as smoothly and quickly as I can play them, or double thumb, or tapping, or chords.

I'm not into practicing songs on my own, although I do write that way.
