Went to see Yes last night in Birmingham. I had seen them several times in the 90s and early 2000s. This tour I guess they do not have the draw they used to and were playing in a concert hall instead of the arena. As it turned out, not only was the sound much better than I ever remembered before, but my 3rd row seat ended up being about 15 feet from Chris Squire! It was a real treat to be that close and be able to watch his technique closely. And an even bigger treat was that I heard his playing through his rig instead of through the PA. Here is a video I made of Roundabout which turned out pretty decent.
Even though he's played that song a million times, it looks like he's enjoying himself. I believe they're here in Atlanta tomorrow night. I'd love to go see them for the 8th time!
Well, I was able to get that great seat last minute. Maybe you can score a good seat this late, too Yeah he definitely was having a good time through the whole show.
One thing I've noticed - they all play great, but he has more stage presence than the rest of the band put together.
Yes are incredible musicians! I always loved that song and that killer bassline! That was great to see. I never knew he used a pick
Really! I've always noticed and appreciated that bass line. Even way way before I got into playing bass. In fact I bought that album (actually the cassette) back in the eighties just to hear that bass line over and over. Of course the rest of the band is incredible to listen to as well.
you live in Birmingham? and yea...I was kicking myself for not going! I couldn't find anyone to go with me, and I was also working...could have gotten it covered, but I kind of also need the money.....aggghhhh!
not the biggest yest fan, but man is that guy awesome. i didnt realize how close my tone was to his, really biting and buzzy. i've heard the isolated bass from the studio version but his live tone is more aggresive.
Great video, really highlighted Chris's playing and his sound with the RM.(which sounds magnificent!) thanks for sharing that! It sounds like the whole band is really cooking, too.
I noticed two things from this good video: 1- Chris does not strain in the slightest playing that fast lick on the verse. and 2- That Marshall 100 and 412 cabinet give his Ampeg some serious "edge". He had 16 tens and 4 twelves up against a Line 6 guitar amp with 112 ! Chris Cuts !
that SOUND. crunchy. anyone who claims to not love his tone is just lying to themselves. in the mix that brittle crunch sounds so lovely.
