Well, Christmas came early for me in the form of a brand new, never been played Yamaha TRB-6P. This is a rare critter in new condition and my first venture into the six string world.

Anyone else hoping for a new bass for Christmas

Santa tracked down some very cool stuff but also had to share with his fellow bassist to keep in the spirit of the times:

To Fellow Bassist: 80's Ibanez Musician Fretless and a Steinberger XM-25

Inside the Stocking: Steinberger XL-2 w/ Drop D Tuner and an Alembic SF-2 Super Filter.

For now the rig is complete:

    Alembic Essence 5 String
    Steinberger XL-2

    Alembic F-1X Preamp
    Alembic SF-2 Super Filter
    Stewart World 1.2 Power Amp
    Eden D 410-T Cab (8 ohm)

The only other thing I could wish for is an octive box in my stocking.

Oh, and maybe a practice amp, like an SWR Working man's 12.

    Am I greedy?

Where did you find one of those new?

That is a great 6 string, congratulations!

At one time, that was considered THE standard in production 6 strings, and still beats most under $2000 sixes hands down, IMHO of course.

I was hankering for a six string to set up with a F# string. I had some ideas of what I wanted and John Turner helped me with the final selection, he likes to watch me spend money.

Anyway, I wanted a quality axe, something long scaled, neck through and with good sounding electronics. My budget was $1000 and John said the best I could do for the money was a good used Yammerhammer TRB-6P. Cruising the net I found several for sale and the good ones were $800 to $900. Beat up, hammered on ones could be had for a little less.

Was about to buy one for $900 when the new one became available. You know the story, right place at the right time. It was brand new from a defunct dealers inventory. Needless to say it busted my budget but it's worth it for a spanking new TRB-6P with the matching factory hard case and the paper work.

The problem now is that with an axe like that there will be expectations that I should be able to play it. Think I will keep it hidden until I learn a few riffs.

Well, congrats on the good deal, nanook, I'll trade you my Ibanez SR506 for it! ;)

I guess I am a glutton for punishment, I gigged with my 6 the week I got it.

Didn't do too badly, except the once or twice that I thought the B string was the E string.
