Anyone know where I can get some simple bass Christmas/Holiday music? I may be playing with my sister-in-law during the holidays just for fun. I guess I could just go by the chords but I would rather see some music as I am very inexperienced.. Thanks, K.
I would imagine your local music store would have some Christmas books. If you're looking for the melodies you can find it for piano and read from treble clef, or just get something in the bass clef like trombone.
I don't know how Christmas-y it is, but I tabbed out "Ode to Joy" a li'l while ago. That's cool to play around with and see who recognizes it (hardly anyone does), during one of my guitarist's famous tuning breaks.
Thanks - My sis-in-law actually plays the piano, and she asked if I would play a bit with her this christmas. She is sending me copies of all her music for piano. Jazzbo - you say that I can get some bass lines from her music? I will have to take a look at it, and if I have any questions I may be back looking for some answers... Thanks- K.
I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're looking for. Are you looking to play "standard" bass lines as part of a rhythm section? Are you looking to play the melodies of these tunes as a solo instrument or with a rhythm section support?
I've got just the thing for you, it's called "Santa's Little Helper Christmas Songbook". Seems that they make them for various instruments I have the bass version, which includes: "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" "Birthday Of A King" "O Little Town Of Bethlehem" "Deck the Halls With Boughs Of Holly" "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" along with 19 others. Santorella Publications LTD puts it out, I got it as a Christmas gift about two years ago.
Thanks Phil- Im going to check that out. I am also starting some bass lessons and I am sure that he will have some suggestions. Jazzbo - I think I am just going to be playing 'standard' bass lines as 'the' section. Its just me and her playing some tunes/messing around. I am just beginning so I thought it would be a great oportunity to play with someone else... Thanks- K.
Just incase anyone else is interested ... I found the site that has the Christmas book:'Santas little helper' that Phil mentioned. The book is listed at the bottom: http://www.santorellapublication.com/satcat.html It is 14.95 with a CD. I think I am getting it, so if you are interested I will let you know what I think. Thanks for the info everyone - K.
For those of you interested ... I received the christmas book and it is really good! It has been a big help in getting me to read music and although not 'hard core' it is a lot of fun to play ... Especally if you can find a piano player and some suckers to sing along ... Peace - K.
