I bought one of the B15n cabs from vintage blue, and they come without the Ampeg logo, of course. This B15n is the only Ampeg( I did have a VT-22 a long time ago) I've had with the chrome logo. How do they attach to the cab? I don't see any screws or nail heads on the logo that came with my cab (B12n) from JohnK; I assume they are just lightly hammered on using the studs that are attached to the logo. Is that correct?
I believe beans-on-toast has a template for drilling that logo. Not totally sure but I'm pretty sure I've seen it. Ask in the Portaflex Club thread if nobody answers you in an hour.
Thanks for all the questions you've answered Jimmy. The same goes for Beans on Toast. I've been a Fender/Marshall guy all my life, and I know my way around their amps very well. Ampeg...well that's another story all together. I hope you guys don't mind the questions I might have. At 60 years old; I don't have any large gig plans, lol; so I think the B15 and B12 combonations will be my go to amp/s from here on out.
I have no intentions of slowing down. I had to lay the 6 string guitars down 2 years ago as arthritis just wouldn't let me form the chords quick enough anymore; that's when I went to bass full time, and found out that I wish I had been a bass player all along. I've always known how crucial the bass was in a tune, but I never knew how fun it was to play bass. I rush home from work now like a little kid, and flip the switches on to start the amp warm up. All my children are grown, and gone now, and I get to act like a youngster again. I feel quite blessed. Thanks to you all.
At one time Mark used to put three dots on the vinyl on the cab where you should make the holes for the logo. If you see three dots don't clean them off, see if that's where the logo pins align. The original logos used to use nails that were imbedded in the pot metal. The modern logos have thicker pins instead of the nails. The position of one of the pins on the modern logo has been relocated a bit. So the drilling positions are different for the vintage and modern logos.
I saw the dots in his cab photo gallery but mine doesn't have them. I just want to get it on level and not drill any extra holes. This cab is a masterpiece.
To add a logo to my B15 cab I just aligned the logo where it should go and pressed down a bit so that the pins would make indentations in the tolex. I drilled out the holes a bit from there then slowly and carefully pounded the logo in with a hammer (with cloth covering the logo, would be better with a rubber mallet but I didn't have one). If you go slow and do each section a little bit at a time it should go in pretty evenly. I did the same for replacing the old broken logo on my R12R though as Jimmy and David have said the pins don't line up exactly so I did have to make some new starter holes there.
Does anyone know where you can get these? I have a B50R and the ampeg symbol broke on mine. Can it be replaced?
http://www.tubesandmore.com/products/S-M919 (on sale now) and http://www.fliptops.net both sell the current one that ampeg uses.
What if there's already holes from a previous logo on it? My B50R, I assume, had that same chrome/metal logo on it and I would think the holes may get bigger or looser if I take the old one out. What do I do if that happens?
If the pins on the new logo are a bit loose you can use a small amount of rubber cement. The original logos were press fit in and they stayed in place.
For those not familiar with Mark at Vintage Blue; he is an outstanding fellow. He's sending me a template. This man cares about musicians, and he makes a cabinet that is unequaled in my opinion. I wish all businesses were run like his. If you ever need a reproduction B15 cabinet; please do yourself a favor, and check with Mark. When I get a few swssions in; I'll give a full review. Thanks to everyone who helped with advice.
