Awwwww, no way. A true legend.

I can think of at least one act I'll need to do today in memorial.

It's difficult to overstate his role in the development of rock'n'roll. If any one person is the king, it's Chuck. RIP.

Needless to say, but a lot of us wouldn't be playing R&R if not for Chuck.

Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" is the only rock-and-roll song included on the Voyager Golden Record.

In a Saturday Night Live segment in episode 64 of the show's 3rd season, Steve Martin's character, a psychic named Cocuwa, announced that extraterrestrials had responded to the record with the four words, "Send more Chuck Berry".

Chuck was such an enormous influence, on a scale that may not be so obvious today. The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and thousands of other '60s bands worldwide started out by covering his material. His witty, detailed lyrics caught the post-WWII teen consumerist scope in a new way. He had an eye, a vocabulary and the art of making it all scan. Even current rap owes him for his treatment of the "dirty dozens" style of rhyming. A genuine poet. "...he could play the guitar just like a-ringin' a bell."
