Cimar by Ibanez

Hi everyone

long time multi muso but firat time forum user. I play guitar and bass but also collect older guitars and basses that need some TLC and refurbish them for resale.

I got the one below the other day but cant seem to find a serial number on it to work out the model. This one is at least 20 years old if now 30, so any information would be appreciated

'Cimar by Ibanez' is maybe a misnomer as both lines of instruments were manufactured by Hoshino Gakki. Your bass looks a bit like a later Roadstar II bass. The split pickguard, allowing you to access the controls, seems unusual. I'm no expert however!

Hmm, never seen that headstock shape, but there was one for sale on TB that looked similar. Seller thought maybe 1980s, made in Korea... Ibanez Cimar P/J - 5 shipped!

Cimar was the Ibanez budget brand. They show up on eBay once in a while.

I doubt that pickguard was originally in two pieces. Looks like it's been cut. Marks on the back of the headstock and neck suggest it was someone's mod project.

Yeah, I see these were more of an early 90s thing... I thought the Cimar brand was retired by then, so I was searching for 80s and even 70s.

He's got a Cimar by Ibanez bass, possibly with some mods. Probably made in Korea. Internet lore has it that the early Cimars were made in Japan but I don't think this headstock dates to that era.

I am told that the bass on my part Shergold double neck is a Cimar?
