The post as it appears on CL this keeps me up til 5 am...MUSICIANS..READ (seems to be nationally) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 2009-07-30, 5:30AM EDT Reply to: [email protected] [Errors when replying to ads?] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm tired of people not wanting to play the bass. In my opinion...the bassist has to have the LEAST amount of talent in the band...but yet...you can't have a band without it. To all the guitarist out there looking for a band. You'd have a lot more luck if you'd simply just play bass. Don't believe me? Go to every city around yours on craigslist...and look in the musician section. Every band is looking for a bassist. Do all of us hard working bands a favor..if you're an inactive guitarist....who would LOVE to be traveling the country in a small van, eating ****** fast food, but having the best time of your life rocking out on stage every night...most nights infront of 16 people...but those amazing nights when 200 people are there...PICK UP A BASS!!!! with Love, Nick Allen myspace.com/nickhero29 myspace.com/sinkingtheshorelineband Location: seems to be nationally it's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests PostingID: 1296493444 ...
Yep this rant is ridiculous. I can't tell you how many times I have responded to CL ads 'Bassist needed...' to either: 1) Get no response whatsoever 2) Get one response, set up a meeting and it is called off the day before, then no response 3) Reply hours after the ad to be told the position is filled!! Well the last CL ad I responded to finally got me a project - first time in two years from that source!
I'd agree about a general shortage of bass players (which is a good thing if you play bass ) but the last thing we need is a buncha gui****s picking up the bass and playing root notes with a pick, if it were that easy to begin with.
The ego of people who post like this really irritates me. Granted, some bassists, such as myself, are mediocre and generally he least talented in a band, not all of us are. I resent, on behalf of the good bassists out there, this posting for the insult, and on behalf of myself for the assumption that I am assumed to suck without the opportunity to suck first.
I'd love to meet this "Nick" in-person...shake his hand, smile, then suffocate him with these humble, "least-talented" hands before I go rock out on stage for those 16, delighted, rock-hungry people.
"Dear Nick, If you'd stop posting dumb craigslist ads, stop singing, and pick up a bass, your band wouldn't sound quite as poopty." I emailed that to him. Awesome. Except I used my main email address....whoops. Obviously I censored myself on this post.
"...but those amazing nights when 200 people are there.." 200? That's not a whole lot at all. Nick needs to get past the bar gig scene, I think.......
My thoughts EXACTLY!!!! Too talented maybe? In fact, I sent him an e-mail asking that very question. I'll get back to you guys if he responds.
Hmm... after reading that I fell highly compelled to join his band, what with how he validates me as a competent musician.
