Classic '70s Jazz Neck Replacement Options?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Bassy Davy, Apr 30, 2010.

  1. I bought one of these new late last year and I love the way it sounds, but after kidding myself for a long time, I realize that I can't live with the "chunky" neck profile. I owned a '78 Jazz in the '80s, and I'd like to get a neck with the "typical" J profile.

So, what are my best options? I'm not concerned with blocks, I'd prefer maple, but rosewood will work okay.

    Should I,

    -Get an aftermarket neck?

    -Look for a used neck?

    -Or......?

I've been playing for over 40 yrs. (yipes!) and I've replaced pups, added preamps, etc., but never replaced a neck.

    What should I do?

or you could have yours shaved/reshaped and relacquered.

  3. Hi John, any idea how much that might cost?
