A classic bass riff from the 70's would be "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple.

Another classic riff is "Cocaine" by Eric Clapton.

"Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin, Classic.

"Money" by Pink Floyd, Excellent Riff.

One of my faves, "Working Man" by Rush.

Another one of my faves is "Overture-2112" by Rush.

...that's the guitar + organ doin' that figure.
The bass is just pumping out 1/8th notes on the Roots(G-C-Bb) with the occasionally 'walk-up'(E-F-F#-G).

Other riffs from tha era(& similiar, too)
    1)"Sunshine Of Your Love"-Cream
    2)"Rock 'N' Roll, Hootchie Coo"-Rick Derringer
    3)"Funk #49"-The James Gang

Also, Led Zep had a ton of riff-based tunes("Heartbreaker", "Black Dog", etc).

Don't forget The Edgar Winter Group's "Frankenstein"!
