cleaning strings with silk wrappings

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by linebacker51, Aug 8, 2002.

  1. this is my first thread and i have a question. the name pretty much explains it. i have read about cleaning strings in rubbing alchol. i was wondering if cleaning the silk wrapped strings in rubbing alchol would ruin the silk

do you mean the silk wrap at the end?

ok, cleaning it will cause it to fray, and while it may not hurt your string it will definitely look ugly.

    i'd avoid it.
  5. thanks :D
  6. I do it all the time, and the strings do get kinda funny frayed at the end, but it's better than boiling, and cheaper than buying a new set. I use Methylhydrate, ie; Gas Line Anti-Freeze.
