First shot of the neck heel laminations, which are Mac Ebony with maple veneer to match the other accents...

That's going to look really cool once he shapes the body/neck joint!

First shots of the full-faced top cut out. It's so cool to be able to visualize it in more and more detail!

And one of all the headstocks from this batch--mine is the second from the left, or course.

One more picture of the body, with the dark contrast veneer before the full-faced spalted Myrtle top (above) goes on...

Mike, I totally appreciate the nod towards classical guitars.

Thanks! Now if I could just get Cliff to build a big hollow body ala the latest Fodera Anthony Jackson...

I've been thinking about a build very similar to that for over a decade. Jonas Hellborg's signature Warwick also falls into similar territory for me.

Yep, the Hellborg is another favorite.

Mike, I love everything about your wood choices. Right up my alley. That top is so perfect. Simple and elegant.

    Thanks, Andrew!

At one point, I thought about switching to that very dramatic grey dyed-through burl maple top, and Cliff was kind enough to indulge me with a bunch of additional photos of the tops. But in the end that just seemed like too much for this bass. I've always been a sucker for myrtle, and the spalting and subtle flame were interesting without being over the top...

Even better than I imagined it would look.

Myrtle is intriguing. I'm still amazed at this particular slice:

A more detailed shot of "the future home of the zero fret". Cliff is definitely a tease with the pics! ;)

I do really like the color and grain match between the headstock and the fretboard--not exactly like it was all made from one piece of wood, but pretty close to that...

More pics, with the pickup routes done and control holes drilled in the top, along with the start of the body contouring. So exciting! :bassist: I wasn't quite sure what color the makore would come out, but it's beautiful!
