i have a six string bass that I recently changed the action (I had lowered it). However, today when I played it I turned the treble knob and suddenly boom clipping and distortion for no reason. I tried using canned air. No avail. Tried lowering the pickups. Nada. The preamp is an Aguilar OBP-3. Suggestions?

First thing I do is replace the battery(ies).

  3. Batteries is the usual suspect when it comes to distortion. Also, some preamps have an internal trim pot or buffer to match outputs across instruments. If it’s there, insure it isn’t pumped too high.

    Amp gain? Easy oversight.
