I'm looking for something close to a Gibson Ripper. Possibly as cheap as one can get. I was wondering if anyone has some good suggestions? If not I'm gonna ask kurt from Rondo if he could make some.

I think I've seen used Rippers for something like 700 bucks.

I had the Epi Ripper, and to tell you the truth, while it was a great bass for the money, it wasn't really like the Gibson Ripper.

It was a great bass, just not the same bass.

I sold that Epiphone to get the money I needed for a Tacoma 5 string around 9 months ago. I plan on getting the Gibson within a year.

    Peace

Would sticking two gibson like humbuckers on a P-bass get me at least in the ballpark?

  7. I've been playing bass for less than a year and learned on a Gibson Ripper. I play an Ibanez BTB405 now and I can get some Ripper like tones out of it, but it's still not exactly like the Ripper. The Gibson Ripper has a very large solid body compared to today's basses. My BTB405 also is a large body bass, however not as large as the Ripper. I believe the large body has a great deal to do with the Ripper tone. I question if putting Gibson like humbuckers on the p-bass would achieve the same tone. If someone has put Gibson humbuckers on a p-bass with success, listen to them though.

Speaking of the sound of a Gibson Ripper....

I love the tone Krist Novoselic got form his on the Nirvana albums.

Its just perfect for what they did.

Im thinking I could relaly use one for my band.

    Peace
