Custom M Basses pups? Jon makes them or they're tailored to his taste? Anyone happens to know?
His site says "my own hand wound single coil pickups"
Can't wait to hear them!
Any Mbasses news happening? I played a couple yesterday and they were wonderful. They really have the gas juices flowing.
I think I have it nailed down to wanting a 60's MJ 20 fret all passive.
Let's hear some stories and see a few pics.
jon is local for me and i have played quite a few of his basses, he is the best builder around, easily accessible, and his knowledge and attention detail is really unmatched. He is also a genuinely nice guy with no luthier ego.
I'm on my second M Bass, and my third is due in March...
My current view (cell phone pic is better than no pic)

Really happy to, once again, own an Mbasses instrument! I foolishly traded my MEJ a few years back.
Visited Jon on Friday, had a great time (he's the man). The maiden voyage was spectacular! 4 gigs in 3 days and the bass got the job done! I have 5 gigs between Thursday and Sunday and am looking forward to getting more familiar with this fine MJ4.
I also picked up a MP4 but I'm currently at my rehearsal space and that bass is at home. I'll get some pictures soon!
I'm in! ❤️ My MBass Brooklyn elite.
What kind of pickup in that one? Jon's the best.
My new MJ-5 from Jon... Candy Apple Green w/matching headstock, rosewood board, gold hardware, Nordstrand pickups, 2 band EQ and vintage tone control...
Time to bump this thread !! I recently had 2 of my MBasses in my local repair guys shop to swap the hardware...
He was very impressed with Jon's work and complimented how it was built and his attention to detail.. He's not too easy to impress and I've had a lot basses in there over the years...
Just got this today. So far, i love it.
That's a beauty! And Jon's the man!!!!
That is simply gorgeous! Makes me want another.
I still have this beauty available, hit me up for a great deal!
Hey all! I am in the process of ordering my first bass from Jon. It's going to be a 4 string P style. Can anyone comment on his 1 5/8" nut neck vs a traditional 1.75"? I have a Fender CS '59 with a chunky ass neck and flats, which feels great for Motown lines, but I'm inclined to go for something a bit faster on this bass that will sport rounds.
I love the taper on my Sadowsky UV70, so I'm not shy on a thinner profile. Any downsides to not sticking to standard profile?
I can't comment on the nut width differences, but I would probably prefer 1 5/8ths... And I played one of Jon's P-4 basses last year and it was killer.. I normally prefer 5 string Jazz basses, but thought about picking up one of those P-4 strings...
Thanks SCT. I’m sticking with the thinner taper! The waiting period is going to kill me. I’ve never played one of his basses but all my instincts tell me it’s going to beat everything I’ve tried in the last few months.
My MP4 was 1.6125” at the nut. It had a fabulous neck.
