Fretboard looks stunning
Yeah I'm happy about it.
Fretboard looking like a supernova and the body a nebula.
What kind of wood is that fingerboard?
If anyone wants to hear my stambaugh in action go to youtube and search "chris cole bass" and at least one of my several links should come up. It's basically a copy of my billy sheehan attitude basses but better. It's the only bass I play anymore.
Gotcha. Cool. Looks pretty.
I'm kinda debating 26 or 28 frets on my next Stambaugh, but kinda cutting back to 24 on the lower strings.
Great bass and great playing. You get a great tone with the Genz Benz and LDS combo. I dig that you've reached deep into Billy Sheehan's bag of tricks (impressive stuff) but still have your own tone and style.
And such a nice Stammy. A great example of someone having a very clear vision and Chris executing it well.
Yeah, that fingerboard is nuts. Beautiful top too. The body is mahogany & walnut? And the neck is maple with wenge stripes?
Oh and subscribed to the new thread.
Mahogany and walnut body yes.
Ash and wenge neck.
The fretboard was a happy accident.
Looking forward to these!
They've been at the finishers for a couple weeks now with no updates.
The fretless is being done as trans white and the fretted as a turqoise burst. Here are the reference images:
took about 10-12 weeks for me to get mine back from the finisher.
I guess I can't be left off the front page, can I?
2009, 2007, and 2012 vintages.
Finalizing build today
I guess Chris didn't know about the Pro Audere having modifiable Z modes now & he talked to Larry about the Quads & feels better about those too. He thought those were splittable humbuckers... market changing fast!
I'm going with the Pro Audere. I have no idea if Audere<East<Pope. Its all subjective opinion & impossible to find clips with the Aero Quads so... might as well start in the good ole USA with the Audere & the recommendation of the builder right?
Such an awesome trio.
I'll be interested to see how your bass shapes up and how it sounds with the Aero Quads and Audere.
Well Well Jared- Change of plans...
Spoke at length the Larry of Aero. He had some "interesting" things to say about Audere Aero relationship. Basically Audere Z modes dont play well with Aeros. Because Aeros have low impedance to begin with the changes are very subtle. The Audere plays well with pickups that have a different philosophy.
So I'm going with something else. I started looking at the John East... bass is boost only? Thats odd. Thinking about the Pope
This guys Stambaugh Pope Aeros is great!
Yeah, the Pope was my first choice for what you're looking for.
Interesting about the Audere & Aeros. That said, I pretty much never used the Z mode switch on mine, keeping it set in the "Mid Z" mode which is the "normal" setting anyway.
I have no issue with a boost only bass control. I've never cut bass on a preamp but I assume others do. The bigger issue for me with the East is that it definitely imparts it's own EQ on the tone. Still a great preamp, but it definitely has a flavor.
