For sale or trade: A Chicago Music Exchange exclusive MIM Mustang PJ bass in black with a tortoise pickguard and a maple fret board. This short scale bass is strung with LaBella flats. It is in very good used condition. While you can get a basic MIM Mustang for less, there is good value at this price. The sale includes the following items: CME-Exclusive Fender Mustang [MSRP $649.99] Hipshot HB10 machine heads (4x) [MSRP = $145.20] Hipshot KickAss high-mass bridge [MSRP = $93.50] EMG GZR PJ pickups and v/v/t pots [MSRP = $179.00] EMG domed chrome knobs (3x) [MSRP = $20.97] Tusq XL Fender Jazz Bass nut [MSRP $13.65] Copper cavity shielding tape Setup w/ fret level and dress The logic behind each of these upgrades is detailed here. I have all of the original parts. While there is no case, I have the original box for shipping. The bass has never been out of the house. This bass is basically setup to Fender’s factory specs, which is quite a bit lower than it arrived and buzz-free under any reasonable attack. If you like an especially low action, there’s room to go lower. Reason for selling: I picked up a used Am Pro P bass as proof of concept—to find out whether I could scale up in neck length and fretboard width. Turns out that was not a problem. In fact, I actually gravitate to my full-scale basses. So the Mustang mostly goes unplayed. Now that I have other basses on hand for a side-by-side comparison, I can confirm that this Mustang sounds great. Trade options: If you have a MIJ bass that you aren’t using, that might be an interesting angle. I have some interest in trying out a Yamaha Broad Bass or a medium-scale bass. I don’t have a Jazz bass, so that’s something I would consider. Maybe a Reverend of some sort, as this is probably a fair straight trade for a used Reverend; never played one, but they look interesting on paper. I probably don't need another P-bass, but I am open to offers otherwise. I am also keeping an eye out for a Jazzmaster guitar, ideally one with real JM pups (not P90s) and the traditional wiring. There are some stock used MIM models that would probably be a straight trade for this bass. If you have something with a higher street value, I can add cash accordingly. Shipping: I will ship this double boxed, like it arrived from CME. If we are trading, obviously the shipping is a wash. If you want to buy the bass, I'll split the shipping costs with you.
Great job with the upgrades. I have the exact same bass sans upgrades. If you have any sound samples I would love to hear it with the geezers and labellas! And good luck with the sale - these basses are fantastic!
Thanks for the offer. All else being equal, I prefer a rosewood board to maple. However, it it looks like this bass is going to a new home this weekend.
