OK, let's talk it up now. Time to lay out your favorite games, and maybe a few predictions... Penn State will handle Florida State. I was excited to see the Gators lay a beat down on FSU, now I get to see "my" school lay a beat down on Bowden. For me, this is the best game on the board. USC hands Texas loss number one, at the most inopportune time. No one can stop the USC defense. Well, maybe the Bears or Colts, but no college team. I really dislike the Oregon Ducks, but I think they got hosed.....Holiday Bowl against a very average Oklahoma team? Duck fans have good reason to be upset. In the "We used to be really good" Bowl, I'll take the Canes over the very disappointing LSU Tigers. Gard, you almost had me believing in your Tigers from Baton Rouge. Sorry pal... -Mike
Meh, I think both USC and Texas could punish the Bears. What are they averaging, 3 offensive points a game? Orton is almost as awful as Maddox from the Steelers. I think Penn State will lay the smack down. Georgia will do the same to West VA. Notre Dame and Ohio State will be a great one. Auburn will whoop the Badgers. Texas Tech will beat Alabama. VT will beat the Cardinals. I could care less about the rest of the games.
Cheer, cheer for Old Notre Dame Wake up the echoes cheering her name, Send the volley cheer on high, Shake down the thunder from the sky, What tho the odds be great or small Old Notre Dame will win over all, While her loyal sons are marching Onward to Victory.
who i'm rooting for: BCS: usc over texas. (dad's side of the family has been usc fans for a couple decades...) penn state over fsu. (i hate fsu, possibly irrationally. they also don't deserve this game.) ohio state over notre dame. (...no real reason, really.) georgia over west virginia. (georgia is SEC, and i saw west virginia toy with south florida this weekend. ) non-BCS: california over BYU. (berkeley is just an awesome school.) michigan over nebraska. (i want to go to michigan for an REU this summer. ) UCLA and northwestern is a toss-up--both good schools. missouri over south carolina. (spurrier!!! ) LSU over miami. south florida over NC state. (my bro's soon-to-be alma mater. ) florida over iowa. (obviously.) wisconsin over auburn. (wiconsin is a better school.) we'll see how i do over the next month!
The only one that I care about and the only one that I will watch: GO PENN STATE!!!!! Being originally from PA, I grew up as a Penn State fan and have remained one. Besides, that's where I would have gone to college, if I had gone to college.
I can't wait to see Nebraska fans fill up the Alamo Dome like we did two years ago. Michigan is going down. Nebraska has bonded as a team this year and is ready to rumble.
The second best game will be ND and OSU, once that over rated team from Cali and Texas work out their differences. Mike
I was really hoping to see a PSU-Notre Dame game to renew that rivalry for the next 10 seasons. I'm kind of surprised that it didn't happen that way...PSU-ND would've been a bigger money generator, imo.
While that seems right on the surface, it's probably in the Network's interest to seperate the two, since they ech draw such a big audience on their own. While PSU - ND would get a nice number, FSU-OSU on a Tues night after 7 nights of football might not have much juice. IMHO.
Dude...I disagree. Ohio State has a HUGE following, that travels very well. I'm from Ohio....but....GO NOTRE DAME! It seems in my neck of the woods, you root for either Ohio State, Michigan, or ND. I always went with ND.
Same can be said for PSU, and there are always PSU fans/alum everywhere and crawl out of the woodwork whenever necessary (right, MJ?).
I hear you, and I don't disagree that OSU has a big following that travels well. But ND for some reason is in another league, pretty much by themselves, in terms of drawing in an audience. And while it's not always the case, I think PSU can draw a bigger market, at least this year. I reserve the right to be wrong, and admit to growing up in State College.
Either matchup would have been great, but I was really rooting for ND/OSU, because IF somehow ND wins the game, I will be able to talk smack to all the local OSU fans...and there are A LOT, for time immemorial! My Brady Quinn jersey is locked and loaded!
The only X-factor that USC has is Reggie Bush. It is almost impossible to count him out in even the worst situation (something USC has a tendency to get into). While Texas has a QB with a better arm and much, much better feet. I also think the Texas D is head and shoulders over anyone that USC has faced this year. It will be a high scoring game, but I think if anyone has what it take to beat USC, Texas has it this year.
I wanna see Texas destroy USC and end all this madness. Reggie Bush and Matt may be great, but so is Texas. USC barely won half of their games, Texas just ran over whoever was put in front of them. I go to VT and am still so pissed that Vick choked, so I'd love to see Penn State over FSU. I seriously doubt Penn will make the same mistake VT did and lose to a team like that. FSU is just barely holding on 23, while Penn is number 3. Those are the only games i care about.
While us Penn State grads are pleased to be thought of as Ivy Leaguers (like Penn), referring to PSU as 'Penn' is like referring to Tech as 'Virginia'.
I've said all along that Mexico Jr. pales in comparison to his brother. Mike is a playmaker, Marcus has made some great plays, but there is a difference. In the '99 NSC, Vick was the only person alive in the Virginia offense and he still kept FSU on their toes. The differences between the two will be painfully obvious when Marcus attempts to go pro. Mark my words.
