I finally got off my a** and ordered a new GB 5-string from Bernie Goodfellow in England. He's going to find a really nice piece of figured maple for the top, but I'm open for suggestions for the color. The only issues to consider are that the bass going to have a rosewood board and I don't want a solid color. I guess I'm looking to hear ideas of colors I may not have thought of... Oh yeah, my other basses are a clear-coated buckeye burl Curbow, and two Status basses with a black/grey color over the graphite weave (so a really dark color will be too similar). I'm thinking of this one, but don't know if it's too common (?) I also like this natural one, but don't know if it would work with a rosewood board: Thanks
maybe if a normal sunburst is too common, get another kind of burst, like greenburst or something.....
Here's a Photoshopped thing of a natural finish with a rosewood board. Sorry it's not great but it is 2:30 in the morning.
I like the teardrop sunburst. I'd say it's fairly distinctive, especially if you get a nice figured wood top.
Thanks guys. I also like the look of the natural one now that I've seen the Photoshop'd picture. But I'm not stuck with just these two for choices, I'm interested in any other suggestions you may have.
I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but on a figured maple bass I love an "oceanburst" finish like Trip Wamsley's Alembic: http://www.alembic.com/info/fc_trip.html It's obviously not to everyone's taste, though, and looks better with chrome hardware than black. Mike
Hey Mike, Thanks - It's not the same, but a bit similar to this GB finish...Kinda nice (Mike, I just ordered this last week. I'm taking bets on which bass will be done first...)
Oooh, that looks nice, though it's different with a maple board rather than rosewood. As for which will get done first, no bets there! I have no idea ... Mike
