(Boy, I'm a posting fool Today ) Does anyone know a bass shop, where I can actually play these basses I'm thinking about buying? I have designs on either G&L 2500 or MM Stingray 5, as a 2nd bass (Gotta love my 77 PBass). I'd love to play a MTD 535 or Sadowsky, but if I can't even find the G&L or MM, I can't imagine finding either of those. Anyway, I now really understand why all those "is this bass any good" questions come from. I can find the basses I _think_ I want at bassnw.com or basscenter.com or wherever, but who knows what they sound or play like. I did find a place on Broadway in Denver, where I bought my Pbass ($625). They had one old tobias, a Modulus for $1100 (ugly sea green), a rick somethingorother, and a gretsch small-scale neck. Great shop, but no MMs or G&Ls. Help! Also, I mean, I see some shops have a 7-day return policy -- do you guys do that? If I find a 2500 I really like (option wise) and order it, is it really cool to just send it back if I don't like it? Thoughts? Thanks! --Bill
I have an L2500. I think you will like it if you are P bass fan. As far returning it, why else would the retailer offer a return policy? That is part of the game. I think is your responsibility to be as careful as possible with the bass until you decide to keep it and return it EXACTLY as you received it. Just like you were playing it in the store. Other than that, returns are part of retail. Returning it is your loss. You'll be the one out $50-60 for shipping two ways. Chas
Drum City/Guitar Land is actually one of the largest Music Man retailers in the country. Talk to Jason and let him know what you're looking for. He usually has quite a bit of stock that isn't on the floor. He's located on W 44th. I think Rockley's on W Colfax carries MTD. I know they carry Warwick, Tobias, Fodera, and Zon. National Speaker and Sound on S Broadway carries G&L. I've never seen a Sadowsky in Denver. Matt
I agree with everything that Matt said except the point about Rockley's carrying MTD. I think the closest MTD dealer is Spotlight Music in Fort Collins. Guitars Etc. of Longmont is listed as an MTD dealer but the last time that I was trying to find any MTD bass locally they told me that they did not have any in stock and did not have any plans for future orders. I hope Matt is right about Rockley's. Drum City/Guitarland is a great place! Hey Bill, what store was that on Broadway that you went to?
Chasarms, can you say a little more about your 2500 -- I mean, is there a "better" year, better options or whatever I should look at? I'm pretty interested, but only after talking with a friend about MMs, and seeing all the posts on here about 'replaced my MM with a 2500' Any thoughts appreciated.
I know Todd's Guitars Etc. on Main street in Longmont carries quite a few G&L. They also have Peavey Cirrus, Modulus, Fender, Ibanez, and a few others. I teach there every week and have seen quite a few nice basses in stock. The prices are very competitive as well. Digs
I'd second the Guitars etc. recommendation. Good service and prices. Didn't realize how many people on here were in Colorado. Go Buffs! Peace
the guitar center in arvada (on sheridan between 80th and 88th) has 6 or 7 musicmans. two 5's. but I wouldn't buy one there because they have been there for months upon months. I HATE rockleys, they supposedly carry epifani, fodera, and whatever but I saw none of that there when I went. The ONLY bass amp they had was a little warwick practice amp. and the guys there no nothing about basses or guitars. but I only went there once.
I'm with you on Rockley's! You can definitely find better prices than there also. If I wanted a Music Man, I'd go to Drum City/Guitarland. If we want an MTD other than a Kingston here in this state, it seems that mail order is the only option. You would have to drive to Fort Collins to get a Kingston!
Hm... I went to FOUR guitar places on Main street in Longmont yesterday.. nobody had G&Ls or anything interesting. I guess Guitar City had a Modulus and the PRS basses, and some new fenders. Where's the shop with the G&Ls? --Bill
National Speaker & Sound on Broadway had about the most G&Ls that I've seen in town and it still wasn't a lot! Rockley's has one. Denver sucks when you're trying to find different gear. Most of the dealers tend to carry the same old stuff.
Hate Rockley music? Yikes! They had the best service out of any music shop in Colorado, IMHO. Worldwide, if you didn't see any of those brands then you must not have gone into the Bass room in the back! I've been going there for a couple years now and they never once treated me poorly, and I'm a freak of a punker! I bought both my Zons there and for a lot less than you could have gotten them at Guitar Center at the time. At least GC doesn't carry them anymore! I don't know what Appleway in Ft. Collins carries anymore, but Drum City/Guitar land is THE place to go for Musicman. They have great service as well. P.S.- does anyone know Aaron from Colonel Mustard? He used to teach at Appleway and I used to take lessons from him. A great guy.
I went in the bassroom in the back. The did have a couple of Zons, about four Warwicks, one G&L, one Cirrus, no Fodera, no Epifani, no Tobias and a lot of Peavey amps & cabs. I also saw one Mesa Boogie setup and one SWR head & cab. I'm going strictly from memory here so I may have missed something. Maybe I just caught them when their inventory was low. They didn't treat me bad but it wasn't the warmest feeling that I've ever had. They are also listed on the Genz Benz site as a dealer but they didn't have anything in stock. I just like Drum City. I go in and tell them what I want and I feel that they try give me their best offer without all of the haggling. I would shop at Rockley's before Guitar Center if those were my only options. In general I'm a little frustrated with the lack of variety that's available in the Denver area.
Yeah, their inventory can come and go. At least they can move Fodera's... easier said then done in the poor music scene that is Denver. I've personally never seen them without Fodera's or Genz Benz. Some things they can barely keep on the shelves, like the higher end Warwicks. First bass used to have everything before they went out of buisness. Overpricing and poor service.
I never got to check out First Bass as I wasn't playing at the time and it was closed by the time that I started. I've been told that Hawk from First Bass is working at a Guitar Center. I'm kind looking for those Genz Benz cabs but I can't find any locally. Give up the contacts Ad!

I've gone through all but four off that list. The only reason that I couldn't contact them is that they were closed on Sunday. The stores in Grand Junction, the Springs, Longmont and Evergreen are the ones that I'm talking about. Starr's Guitars seems to be pretty nice guy and I've gotten some very positive feedback on him from a a guy in Arkansas of all places. He's going to get me a quote in the next day or so. Jason at Drum City had a Genz Benz combo but so far that's all I've been able to find. He's already given me a quote. I may just have to order some without trying them. There's not a lot of users that I'm able to locate but the few that I have made contact with were very impressed with the XB2 series of Genz Benz. It's not that I can't find any dealers. The dealers just don't tend to stock what I'm looking for. MTD basses is another thing that I would love to find instate.
