I currently own the Fairfield Accountant compressor and enjoy it's tone enhancement when set at Ratio 1 and Pad 2. I'd also like to buy and try out a Diamond compressor for it's particular tone enhancement. Has anyone tried combing these two pedals for an always-on effect? Or have you tried combing any other compressors that provide tone boosts?

I replaced an Accountant with a BCP-1. Close, but not cigar...

I now run a Barbershop ME just ahead of the BCP-1. Closer, but still no cigar...

What are you looking for that you can't get?

Kind of. I run a DBX 160a emulation from my Zoom MS-60b in the clean loop of my EBS Billy Sheehan signature drive. Then I also use the built in compression of the EBS pedal to help the clean and dirty channels gel together. This way, I can squash the clean more than the dirty signal.

I have both on my board, Accountant before Diamond. BCP-1 is always on, Accountant to taste. I don't notice a big change in tone when switching the BCP-1 on/off when the Accountant is on. The Accountant clearly is the dominating flavour here.

I'm sort of trying the same thing here. Using my new Accountant on the same settings and the markbass Compressore as more of a limiter.

Don't know about the Markbass, but between the BCP-1 and the Accountant, the Accountant is more geared towards limiting. AFAIK it has faster Attack and Ratio can be set higher as with the BCP-1. Therefore running an Accountant before the BCP-1 renders the compressor duties of the BCP-1 redundant. You could still find the Tilt-EQ usefull though... All IMHO

You misunderstood what I was trying to say. I could have been more clear. By "close/closer but no cigar" I was saying that I had been close to what the OP was asking for specifically, but not exactly. In other words, I had owned the BCP-1 and the Accountant at different times, as well as currently owning the BCP-1 and another Fairfield overdrive pedal, but I had never been in the exact situation the OP was describing, albeit ones that were close to it. I'm not looking for anything the combination of the Barbershop ME into the BCP-1 isn't giving me. It's perfect.

Looked at the Barbershop, seemed very Nice! It may be an alternative if my incoming Ginger isn't working out :)

It's a great overdrive if what you're after is mild. I don't like it at all for heavy distortion. Mine is always-on, and set to only break up when I dig in. When I'm playing normally, I can't even tell that it's turned on.

To make it relevant to this thread; I find that the Barbershop ME has a much smoother sounding overdrive than the Accountant, which was very punchy and had a grainy character to it. I really liked the Accountant, but it just wasn't right for my current projects.

I'm currently running the Accountant into a Barbershop and when I start turning the Accountant past Unity gain, I get some really sweet tube like overdrive breakup qualities. When combined, the Accountant sends the Barbershop into another dimension.
It seems my tone is lacking a bit in the warmth department, so I thought to try the Diamond to add it's extra 3:1 compression ratio and a little warm sweet sauce on the side.
Maybe switching between the 2 of them I can cover classic rock and grunge territory.

EHX black finger is pretty excellent, I would personally replace everything you're using just with that ;)

  13. I've never played through an Accountant, but I can tell you that Barbershop > Diamond sounds heavenly.

Agreed. The combination does a wonderful job of emulating a tube amp in the sweet spot.

Thanks for all of the replies.

I guess I'll have to get a Diamond just to try that Barbershop combo.

Then I'll let you know how I think it sounds with a Accountant before and after in the chain.
