Hey everyone. I need some suggestions for a good combo amp, under $600-700, that is at least 200 watts WITHOUT extension cabs. Weight is not much of an issue, but for speakers I'd like either 1x12, 1x15, 1x18 (do they even make 18" combos?), or 2x10 (altough if you could suggest a good 4x10 combo I'd love to know ). I don't care about built in effects (why do the salesmen at most guitar stores always use that as a selling point? "This Crate amp has 1x8 speaker, and it's only 10 watts, but it has a built in chorus, so it's gotta be good" ) But I would like some EQ (not too much, no Parametric stuff). A Tube preamp is a big plus too. Thanks.
If you haven't checked out an Ampeg B-100R, do so. Then check out the specs afterwards. Then look at the price.
The Ampeg B-100R is a great mid-size amp that puts out a lot of volume for 100 watts. If you're willing to go up to $700, the Ampeg B2 combo has that same Ampeg tone with quite a bit more power - and it will handle an extension cab.
I will second the Ampeg combos mentioned, but will also add the new Genz Benz combos. They make a 200 watt 2x10 combo that is in your range and sounds pretty good. The same combo is available in a 1x15 and 1x12. Try out with your bass and pick the one that sounds the best. jtbp
Check out the Fender Bassman 200 if you can.Im very pleased with mine.I think they list for $650,I paid $550 for mine.
Eden Nemesis Combos - they're a very loud 200w and should be in your price range at BassNW. http://www.eden-electronics.com/ncombos.html
