    RIght now i have a Crate BT50 amplifier, can i hook up a larger more powerful cab to the head to get more power?

    Cabs don't have power. They have a power rating, which is how much power they can handle from an amp. You can get more sound with a given amp by hooking up a speaker with higher sensitivity, but it's hard to get a believable sensitivity rating. In the absence of any other knowledge, you gain sensitivity with total cone area, assuming high quality drivers.

    Going the cabinet route is not a bad thing. Get one with a power rating sufficient to handle a more powerful head later.
