    Head:
    Carvin B500
    Carvin B1500
    Kustom Groove 1200

    Cab:
Avatar 2x12 DF 1000 watt or someting else Avatar or something else all together maybe

please give me what you think is the best combo or ideas of your own that are relativly cheap and loud

That sounds cool. I went through a Carvin system one gig and wasnt too impressed. I think it is decent stuff for the money. I'd probably go with the Kustom Groove.

However, if you take an ebay route, you might be able to get gear that is a step or two up, for the same price range.

On about the same budget a while back, I picked up an Ashdown MAG 300, SWR WM 1x15, and Mesa/Boogie Diesel (old school) 1x15. It was good for many venues.

  3. What tone are you going after? A Traynor YBA-200 is about $100 more than the Kustom, and if you are after something tubey that would probabally be the way to go. I would not go for a Carvin 500 head, but the 1500 should be fine.

I have had 2 friends both have trouble with their Carvin bass heads. On paper - Carvin rocks, but sometimes in the battle field they don't stand up 100% straight. Having said that, my band uses a lot of Carvin PA equipment. Maybe those 2 guys just got lemons.

I have a Kustom Groove Bass 1200 head, I like it VERY much. I got mine as a B unit for $390 with full warranty. I couldn't see anything wrong with it. I was running this Kustom GB with Avatar cabs, 2x10 Kappa Pro & 2x12 Delta. I was very pleased with this setup, and actually got compliments on my 'tube' tone quite often. I also used an Ibanez TS9DX in front of the Kustom a lot. Has plenty of lows & starts the growl very smoothly. That whole stack was a lil over $1000. So, shop hard -- you won't regret it.

As a side note - just to let you know how much I like my Kustom/Tube Screamer setup... I just got in a Peavey Classic 400 tube amp. The tone is about the same between the crunchy tube sound of the Peavey & my Kustom/TubeScreamer rig... but, the tubes give it the sonic depth that tubes are known for. It thickens it up & makes the notes richer in sound. I got a great deal on this head & they are not very common. BUT -- I think the Kustom GB is a wonderful amp with TONS and TONS and TONS of volume... I don't think you will regret the Kustom.
