They sound nearly the same to me. The Cirrus is lighter with a wider and thicker neck, but the tone is nearly indentical.

I thought the Forum had just a touch more depth, but yes, they are quite similar.

I like the Forum tone better. That Cirrus has bum pots, and the store is ordering a new. Stuff like that is probably why Peavey is planning to make the Cirrus stateside next year.

While I am a Fender guy, I would really like to see Peavey return to US production. I cut my teeth on their basses and they used to be a quality provider of affordable American products. I could see myself owning one down the road. I tried some of the BXP series and found them hit and miss. I would really like to see them succeed.

I think all American bassists would like to see Peaveys made here again.

Love the looks of the Cirrus but that tone (similar to the Ken Smith) is just not my taste. Give me a Jazz or Stingray any day of the week. I liked the sound of the Forum better.

Hey, horses for courses! You will never go wrong with a Jazz or Stingray. That soapbar pickup close to the bridge sounds is something I love, at least sometimes!:bassist:

I'm just glad I a/b'ed my Forum with that Cirrus because it let me know that there is no need to lust after a new Peavey.;)

Cirrus tone is nice, but Forum tone slightly better!

That is true because a new American made deal will not have a bargain basement price!

The Forum sounds worse/cheap to me, but to be honest, I don't like how you have either EQ set.

I would not doubt that at all.

I'm glad it's my bass and not yours because I love it and I love it's sound. The Forum is not a common model, but it was not a budget it model. It had a pretty hefty price by early 1990s standards. It pickups were a variety of VFLs, the same sort of pickups on the Cirrus. The preamp is a two band 18v version of the three and four band preamps later used in the Cirrus, Millennium, and G Basses.

Nice test! To my ears the Forum had slightly more tonal "beef".

My best bass player friend has a Cirrus and it's super comfortable and plays like butter.

Last year we did a gig where both his and my band were playing the same night. So as a test we played each others basses on a few songs so we could hear what our own basses sounded like live from the audience. My Stingray had more "beef" than his Cirrus in that circumstance.

But the Cirrus really feels GREAT to play. I wouldn't mind having one myself. :bassist:

Yes, the Cirrus is much lighter than Forum, plus my Forum has a slab body which is nowhere nearly as ergonomic as a Cirrus. I also really love the Cirrus' neck too.

I prefer the Cirrus, but that's just a preference. They are both nice.

I find the Cirrus' sound rather generic. The Forum sounds more oomphy.

If the second clip is the Cirrus then I prefer it. The one in first clip, to me sounds somhow "hollow".
