Are double bass bridges compensated or not (I don't know if compensated is the correct term)? On acoustic guitars the bridge is uneven, making each string a diferent length. I've heard this refered to as compensation, and it is designed to perfect the intonation on each string.

Can you play perfectly in tune without frets? Fretted instruments dictate the intonation, Violin family instruments do not!
