Hi- I need a bit of advice---
I need a compressor or a limiter, and I'm not sure which one would be best for my needs. When I play out with my band Zox there are occasions when I'll smack my fender jazz bass with the palm of my hand (don't worry I don't damage my instrument!), and a loud 'popping' sound that is way above my usual signal will happen. So- I want to minimize this popping sound. What would work best, a compressor or a limiter? And, which specific pedal(s) would best get the job done?

Most (if not all) compressors can be used as limiters, it's quite pointless to buy a limiter first IMO.
Just make sure it has a ratio of infinity : 1 (a limiter is just a compressor set to that ratio) that you can dial in.

  3. Boss makes a Compressor Limiter pedal for around 60-65 bucks (Guitar Center). I use it with great success and I swear by Boss stompbox effects anyhow.
    Good luck!
