Compressors: any use on rock tunes?

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by Rockin John, Nov 30, 2001.

  1. Compression seems to be largely linked with bass styles other than rock: by rock I mean the 60s / 70s stuff like Cream, Led Zep, Hendrix and all that kinda stuff.

I'd like to tighted up my sound for various reasons so I've toyed with the idea of building one. But there'd be quite a bit of work involved and I'm uncertain as to whether or not it'd be worth the effort when there are more pressing things to be built...like the bass amp!

    Guidance please.....:D

I don't know what kind of results you'd get by building one. Good compressors are pretty complex. It wouldn't really be overly neccesary for rock bass, but it would make your bass a little punchier.
You can get a decent one for about $100.
