I have an Xotic SP..And I know the Wampler Ego's and Darkglass Super Symmetry have them. Do any other manufacturers have them ?
I'm sorry but why would you want a blend control on a compressor? The purpose of compression is to reduce peaks and smooth out the sound. It seems to me that a blend control would defeat this purpose. Maybe it's because I learned about compression in a studio setting so the idea of having a blend control on a compressor just seems kind of stupid to me. Just my opinion with an explanation of how I formed it. I'm not trying to start a fight. C/S, Rev J
The best example is that the compressed part can be used to add sustain, while the uncompressed part retains a certain level of dynamics.
Pigtronix Philosphers Bass Seymour Duncan Studio Bass. Back in the day you couldn't give me a compressor without a blend. Then I got a Keeley Bassist and now I don't understand why a compressor would need a blend
Parallel blending is just another technique that may or may not yield an outcome that is pleasant, or perhaps solves a dynamics problem. To refer to it as being "stupid" is sort...hmmm...considering the technique is supposed to have originated in the recording studios of New York City, from some pretty well-heeled engineers. i like my blend knobs ... on just about everything ... the Dark Glass , to me , has a tubelike warm ... so it can be driven harder to color the sound a bit ... a color that i like ... then squish to taste , ... blend together -- whatever works at that moment in time ... just another harmless tool .. but ... if you want and can find / afford something very transparent ... and stays transparent whilst squished ... then i wouldn't want/need a Blend .. !
Parallel compression? I'm pretty much all about studio stuff so it intrigues me that you've never seen a wet/dry or blend control on a compressor. They're really common place now, especially in the studio. I really love any Ross style compressor for bass, and I'm pretty sure there is a mod for the Dynacomp which gives it a blend control!
