What is best for bass, a high-end rack mounted compressor that's not designed especially for bass, or a cheaper, floor stompbox designed specifically for bass?

And will the compressor improve my sound greatly anyway?

    Thank you!
  2. Well..

i used to have a Boss Basslimiter / compressor. it was $ 150, and had a ****load of static in it..

now i have a Behringer compressor / limiter / noisegate / enhancer, which cost only $ 85, and it's amazingly good sounding.

so my vote defenatly (sp?) goes to rackmount units..

I use the Carl Martin for my guitar: it's not true bypass but it's very transparent and versatile. I rarely use it.

For bass I use the 1/3 rack space FMR RNC which is fantastic for recording. Very transparent, super quiet.
