    Hi, I'm Holdsg (hi Holdsg) and I'm a gas-o-holic

There, no more denial. Isn't that one of the 12 stages?

Last time I posted I was gas-free, about 2 years ago, I went ahead and turned over virtually all of my clutch of basses.

So can I be so bold as to say I'm gas-free? At least for this moment?

I have not purchased or sold a bass or amp since March 1.

I have nothing in my "wish list", nothing I am listing, or watching, or whatever.

And I'm extremely bored (but managing, I suppose).

Who among us is a reformed gas-o-holic that can keep me on the right path?

I think it is certainly possible to rid oneself of generalized GAS, as well as to be free of any GAS whatsoever "for this moment."

I think it is perhaps optimistic to think that one will not at least be subject to specific GAS, from time to time, caused by some shiny new piece of gear, changes in playing circumstance that cause you to consider gear you had ignored before, etc. At least, that has been my experience over the past few years.

    well said
  4. Hate to be unsupportive but I find it hard to believe any of us will ever be 100% GAS-FREE for life.

There's always a gizmo, widget or thingamabob that we'll just "need to have." :D

    Welcome to the club!

    willpower, I tell you, I've got willpower......squirrel!
  8. Only things I want right now are a fretless warmoth neck for my jazz bass and more time off work to use my gear. A8900578-8C84-4CEF-BB00-9C3173D324AA.jpeg

Last March I stated that I was now GAS free and would not buy anything anymore. I have since purchased 2 amps and 3 basses. So I am stating again right now that I am GAS free and will not be buying anything anymore.

is it really GAS if you are using the items? Are upgrades considered GAS ?
    I think not!
If you sell something to buy something else, that's an upgrade.
If you buy something, play with it for a couple weeks, then put it away, THAT is GAS.

Coming here for help with GAS is the equivalent of an alcoholic walking in a packed bar and expecting to be saved.

This is pure silliness :) .

Now I'm gonna go check if that Danelectro I want is in stock yet....
  14. That looks awesome. Nah, haven’t ordered it yet. Have spent a lot of time looking for more affordable alternatives because the warmoth neck that will fit my Mexican jazz 5 also requires buying new tuners also because I’ll be changing from a 4+1 headstock to a 5 inline. I’m currently setting a little money aside each month and hope to have the bass completed by Christmas

Several years ago, I went down to 1 bass, 1 head, 1 cabinet, 1 DI and 1 Preamp. At my worst, I had 14 basses at once. I didn't like the idea that I had become a hoarder and rationalized down to just what I used all of the time (what was most universal). I did this at least 5-6 years ago, so it can be done. The trick is to get past your first year.

I wish you well sir. Gasaholism can be a serious disorder to conquer.

Fortunately, no amp GAS anymore. I’m cured.

If you're a gasaholic in recovery, hanging around talk bass is like an alcoholic hanging around a bar. Sooner or later you're gonna cave.

August 15, 2019 was my first (only) GAS free thread. Boy, I’ve learned a lot since then! Now I use it as my “GAS-iverasry” to reflect on my purchases and see what was worth while. Trying to weed out the regret from the good ideas... :woot:

My last cab was bought in August, Bass in October... so I’ve been pretty good this year. I’ve got a bass and amp I can stop thinking about/looking at so we’ll see... (my local shop has the amp used, so I tried it out again- didn’t help at all! :roflmao:)

Plus I have a deal with my wife- since “need” is covered, “want” can only be bought with gig money. Since last years drought, and gig money coming in this year (hopefully, booking stuff so far) I might be in trouble! :nailbiting::D
