Hi Has anyone de fretted a Conklin 7 string with a purple heart fret board, seems like the Purple heart would be hard enough to cope? Tony
Oh the horror!!! Purpleheart is a pretty tough wood, and it would probably be hearty enough to stand up to a de-fret. Still, it would be pretty hard to match the color in the (likely) event that you have chipping issues. The other major thing to consider is that a GT7 (I'm assuming that;s what we're talking about here) is a hefty investment, and you should really only consider a de-fret on one if you've done a LEAST a few successful ones in the past.
