i've read on this forum that the conklin groove tools basses are not being made anymore. but, it's still on musicians friend..why?

    http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Bass/Electric?sku=512700

and if your going to say it's just cause they have some left over..then how come if you look at the link you'll notice that they have no basses in stock, but if you click on availibility you'll notice that they are getting more. so what's the deal? also, does anyone know what the string spacing is on the conklin GT-4?

I called Conklin. They left a message that they do not make groove tools anymore. I think that Cort, in Korea, probably has a license to continue making them. That's probably who Musician's Friend is getting them from.

oh okay. well are the basses still gonna be the same quality that it was while it was still conklin? if not, what are the differences gonna be?

  4. Musician's Friend usually has a standard "XX days to be in stock, average" to keep you coming back and looking at their site. Music123 does as well.

So if its not the Cort thing, I offer that solution.

It's my understanding that the Groove Tool basses have always been manufactured by Cort. Supposedly, excellent build quality.

  7. Those availability dates have been changing all year. I wouldnt take them too seriously. I just ended up finding a good one used. They are a sweet bass for the money, imo.

I've seen them go in and out of stock long after hearing they were discontinued though.....maybe they are getting old stock from other places?

i like my GT4. ive been thinking about putting a hipshot vibrato on it. anybody done this to theirs?

  10. Definitely excellent build quality, with kick-butt woods. Wenge/Purpleheart necks, Purpleheart fretbaords, Swamp Ash cores, and Quilted or Flamed Maple tops.
