Will the Conklin GT-4 or 5 string basses dowell for a variety of music, anywhere from standards with a relatively accoustic band, to funk, to loud rock?

Or is it more of a thumper than anything else?

And since the price is comparable.. How does it do against a standard Fender Jazz?

They're a different beast from the Fender. I like the GT stuff a whole lot. They sound and play great, they look pretty cool, and you can get them fairly cheaply used.. when you find them anyway.

How about the build quality? Are they gig-worthy basses? Is the production line consistent or iffy, a la Fender..?

And the tone of the bass? I guess this is personal and I'll have to check out my local dealers.

    Thanks guys

Hi-techish sound. Well built. Stunning appearence, especially if your victim has never seen one before.:)

i love the sound and plability of my GT4. the only reason it doesnt get much use because of my carvin LB76. the GT4 sounds much better IMO, but i prefer having 6 strings. if only there were a GT6 ;)
