Conklin GT-7 Fretless: Discontinued?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by therealting, May 13, 2004.

  1. Hey guys, I'm interested in finding a fretless twin for my Conklin GT-7. I always get a good reaction when I play it live, and I think having a fretless double would be even sweeter!

Unfortunately, it appears from a few websites that it has been discontinued. Does anyone know of a dealer with one of these still in stock, or does anyone have one they're interested to pass on (or know of someone)?

    Thanks!

(p/s: any ideas for a fretless twin for my Yamaha TRB-6 Mk I?)

  2. One last try before I give up.

Anyone who's defretted a TRB, I'd be interested to hear your experiences too.

I haven't heard anything about the basses being discontinued.. Maybe they've temporarily stopped production to make changes to them like on the 4 and 5 string models. :meh:

I google for them every once in a while, and I haven't seen any at the big online houses for months, though once in a while somebody or other seems to have them... never at the $999 level though, usually around $1300.

Mine remains the only one I have ever seen in person... and I'm NOT selling!

Doubtful. The mods on the 4 and 5 string models was only changing the 2 band pre out for a 3 band with a slap contour switch..

Hell, I'd poop my pants if Bill offered a GT-8 or GT-9!!

That would never happen though... He'd never be able to sell enough of them to justify it.. Although I would definitely buy at least one of each!! :D

Two custom shops (8 string & 7 hollowbody) and two Groove Tools 7s (fretted and fretless). My third custom shop, the hollowbody 8, should be ready to ship next week.

Ok thanks... I've been drooling after GT-7 for a while now, but I think that I'll never have one because I live in Finland. :bawl:

I am about to (Real Soon Now) buy a GT-7 and I've been in contact with Bass Central (no plug intended). They will easily ship to Norway and probably Finland as well, and the price is much less than you'd expect.
Many other bass specialist stores in the US will ship internationally (I've dealt with Bass Northwest before), but they don't all have GT-7s in stock.
Ask Bass Central for a quote. Remember to include your full shipping address, otherwise they won't be able to tell you how much the shipping cost will be.

Well actually IMO they are quite expencive @ Bass Central... I mean you can get one used from eBay for 700€! And I don't have 2000$ in my back pocket :meh:

people have specifically asked bill conklin whether he was ever going to build any gt8's or 9's, and the answer is "don't count on it", not because bill is unwilling, but because getting westheimer to do anything like that would be like pulling teeth. it took over 2 years of prototyping before they got the gt7 right, and another year at least iirc before the bdgt7 was right. shoot, took them 2 years to get the rocco model done the way it was supposed to, and that's really just a souped up p-bass.

so don't count on it any time soon. if you guys want a cheap 8 string, look into the galveston. you'll get what you pay for it :eyebrow: :rollno: but it's an 8, and it's cheap. it would be a decent experiment bass.

oh, and i have more conklins than mark heh :p j/k :D
