I have a GK microbass combo with a scratchy volume pot. I seem to remember reading somewhere that you shouldn't use the spray contact cleaner on these amps. Is that true?

I wouldn't use "Contact Cleaner" on any potentiometer. You'd need to choose something with a lubricant like "Tuner Cleaner" (named back before radios and TVs had solid state tuning). It will clean the gunk out and lubricate it.

I use the stuff you can get at Radio Shack and have had excellent results.
