Contour function on a Sunn 2000S

The contour seems to matter little when I'm in the "Normal" input. The bass control, however is profound!!. I can't even switch on the bass boost. It's too bassy. The "bright" channel seemd to be much more balanced, tone wise. The contour seems to fill in some mids there. I only have tested the amp with my Sonic 1-18 so far. Maybe with a 4-10 it might be more balanced in the "normal" channel.
Any experience with this "Contour" knob.??

I'm playing a 'mid boost' Sunn Sceptre (2x 6550). It's voiced for guitar but really sings for bass.

    I keep mine at:

    treble-- 2
    bass-- 10
    contour-- 4
    mid boost-- ON.

I've got no hi or low switches. I much prefer the normal inputs to the bright.

    I'm playing it through a pair of 1x12 + 1x8 cabinets.

In the bright channel, I run the bass at 3 with the boost on. Or at 5 with the boost off. The normal channel you can't have the bass more than 1.5 and the boost off.
