Convert a fretted Zon Sonus to a fretless Zon Sonus?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by him666, Aug 8, 2005.

  1. I see fretted versions of the Zon Sonus from time to time on Ebay, but hardly a fretless Zon Sonus. Can i just buy a fretted Zon Sonus and convert it to a fretless one? Or are the elektronics and pickups different in a fretless Zon Sonus?
  2. The electronics will be the same. It all depends on what model sonus you get for scale length and electronics. Fretless is an option on all models. I wouldn't reccommend de-fretting a Zon. It just sounds like more trouble than its probably worth.

You can send your neck or your bass to ZON and have them replace the fingerboard for a reasonable fee. I think thats your best bet, rather than defretting a phenowood or phenolic fingerboard. Those materials are a tougher to work with than wood, and a new fingerboard will perform better than a modified one. Plus, then Joe can make sure the bass is playing alright is dialed in properly. You never know with any used instrument..
