convert combo to a cab?

i've got a SWR basic black combo and it just isn't loud enough for the smaller gigs that i play. i replaced the blown original speaker with a EV 15" thinking it would get a little louder, but when i dial up more volume, the built-in power amp just clips and clips...

is it possible to do a conversion to where my SVT head can power the cab? it DOES NOT have an input for another amplifier. i'd rather not gut the thing - would be good to keep the functionality of the original design.

otherwise i might have to trade it for a 2x10

Sure you can. Just install a male and female 1/4" speaker plug and jack in-line, in your combos speaker wire run.
I decided to use a homemade mounting bracket instead of drilling holes to mount my jacks.
I used an extra length of wire and connected the male end to the combos internal speaker.

Leave em plugged in and the combo still works as normal.

I just simply unplug the male ends and connect directly to my amp.
