Converting to Metal grill on SVT410HLF--what to use for grill spacers/stand-offs?

I recently picked up an SVT 410HLF that had no speaker grill. I've decided to go with an expanded sheet metal speaker grill. I want to add more spacers/stand-offs to make sure the metal isn't vibrating. I'm thinking of using wooden doweling cut to length, then drill a hole in the middle,...but wondering if there might be better alternatives. Maybe something in a hard rubber material, or even considered using automotive heater hose,.....filling the center of the hose with a smaller diameter hose,....or a curing flexible material like E6000.

Also looking for black round head Phillips Head screws and black washers. Lowes and Homey D had none. Would prefer Not to paint plated screws, but will if that's what it comes to.

    Thoughts on this?

Reliable Hardware sends along rubber hose with their custom grills, looks like 3/8" or so.

That would be a perfect solution,....and the $7.50 works. Only problem is that they have a minimum order of $20,...plus S&H.

reliable hardware and parts-express both carry black screws. Check out McMaster-Carr as well.

You can use a black rubber feet, like the type used on amps for the spacers. They come in a variety of heights and diameters.

  5. Yep, black rubber feet work just fine. You can Google around for "vibration isolator" also. Lots to choose from.

If you buy a grill from them they throw in the standoff tubing and screws, or at least they used to. They sell a lot of other 'useful' bits too, if you need to rationalize the minimum and S&H.

Unfortunately, I already bought my grill from a local metal shop a few days ago.

    This^^

Get some rubber stoppers/plugs locally. Drill a hole through the middle of them.

I did this with a Peavey once and used the rubber feet. Worked great.

  11. I just got some auto rubber hose today for stànd offs. Black heavy duty I think it was 1/4" ID and 1/2 OD, worked fine.

Good idea. Hadn't thought of that. Fuel line, etc. Various sizes, buy by the foot and cut little pieces. Good deal cheaper than a bunch of rubber plugs too.
