I ran across this listing http://cgi.ebay.com/AMPEG-SVT-100-T...yZ121156QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem it looks like a really cool old amp, has anyone ever owned one? is it similar to the v4b? just curious mattman
I've never seen one of those, but what a cool amp. Big transformers and 4 6550s - it should have a little more grunt than a stock V4B. Nothing wrong with that.
Here's a few other SVT-100 threads and posts for anyone interested: http://www.google.com/custom?domain...;S:http://www.talkbass.com;LP:1;FORID:1&hl=en
I've got a V5 guitar head that looks almost identical to that. I believe they are MTT and were made in Japan. I run it through a V4 4x12 and Fender BXR115. Not quite as smooth the 300w SVT because I have to drive it a little harder, but has a real nice old school sound.
The SVT-100s were some of the first amps that were made right after SLM acquired Ampeg in 1986. As a matter of fact, there were only three models of amps offered in 1986; the SVT, SVT-100 and B-15. They were originally lead guitar amps, but they sounded terrible for guitar so they were turned into bass amps and they only made 100 the first year. It's a nice piece of Ampeg history.
