A thread that seems to run through my musical hobby/career is one of being embarassed to tell others the name of my band. With all of the dumb band names I've run across, I know I can't be alone. I will say that band names of today are considerably cooler than band names when I was starting out in the 80's.

My dumbest: Nothing can beat the silly 80's high school garage bands. Among mine were 'Synergy' and 'Achilles'. There was another that was even more retarded -- Ah Hah -- just remembered it (cringe): Pegasus. Ouch!

My coolest: My all-time favorites are "The Pierres" and "Uncle Virus." [note that this was back before anyone else had thought to use "Uncle" in a band name.]

    Yours?...

    :)

I'm keeping that name. It may be reincarnated another day. I dig the Ernie's Special Balls. I was in another band at that time that was called "Little Mary and Her Swingin Richards".

We wanted to name our amateur baseball team the "Swingin' Richards", but the commissioner would allow it.

  4. I dunno...

Worst: Flammable, The funky chickens, Them

Best (IMHO) Throwing Muses (Then I learned it was taken) "That Other Band" (It works very well when playing a triple bill. Better with a double.)

  5. Worst: Fusician, Femme Fatale, Speaking Lamp, Local Tourist, S.S. Bumblebee, Laughter Train

Best: Flat Out Liars, Mother Funkers.

I played out once under a name suggested by our female singer: Grandpa's Wrinkly Finger. Almost played out as The Winslinpippy Airbiscuit Band, a name proposed mainly just to jack with the sensibilities of a certain guitarist, who threw a predictable fit at that suggestion...

I don't know if those would be among the best or among the worst - as Pete says, it's all in what you make of it...

I'm not sure about the best and worst.. I haven't been in that many bands..

But once I played on New Years Eve (1999-2000) and the owner of the place called us "The 2000 band" or something.

But the best band name is IMO Bensíntittir Dauðans. It's kinda stupid but I like it.

  16. A friend just told me last night about his country band with female front called
    "The Co-Texans"

Local band here in San Diego called
"Johnny Cougar Concentration Camp" is pretty fun
and there's the "Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash"

A band I was once in used the name "Flat Kitty" a few times........
My current band is "Bubba Hyde" .............. snicker, snicker

  20. The best name for a band would be "Horrible". That way your singer can go on stage before you begin and say "Hi, were Horrible, from (insert state your from)".;)
