Recently I spent 2000 at least on an audition. Just curious how some
people cut costs. any ideas appreciated.

The same way most students cut costs on auditions....... ask Mommy and Daddy for more money. (Works for getting a good bass, too.)

But seriously, folks. If you are flying, just count on getting sc****d. Hence my preface of asking Mommy and Daddy for more help.

If you drive, however, multiple options exist. Motel 6 instead of Marriott. Your car instead of Comfort Inn. McDonald's 99-cent menu. Make and bring your own food in a cooler. Rent a cheap high-mileage car and put 2,000 miles on it in 3 days (all-night return drive, works for smaller orchestras with 1-day audition schedules). Basically pretend you're homeless and live on the cheap. It makes you hungrier for a win, and emotionally, since there is less of a monetary investment, there is less pressure to produce results to justify the investment. Finally, it prepares you for the life you will lead if you don't get a full-time gig.
