after the arrival of the semi-custom fretless on the left, I have a GREAT pair of basses built to my specs and with wood I picked out (Bubinga).

I now have a a collection of basses which spans a huge sonic range (Ps, Js, double humbuckers, J/MM, fretless, fretted, acoustic fretted and fretless)...

could I finally be in Nirvana?

    DSCN3096.

here are more pics (with the "twin" made from the same piece of wood):

    DSCN3093.

    DSCN3094.

    DSCN3099.

    DSCN3095.

    DSCN3100.

it is not quite as red in person but does have a red tinge...

Masterful. I applaud the luthier(s), good taste to you.

May the thunder roll forth and dominate with groove and tone and the odd ghost note in exactly the funky 'a' 1/16th of 3 with a neat hammer-on and slide up to the key change.... :bassist:

no, that band broke up.
But those are some nice basses. I'm sure you can get tonal nirvana.

This must go on my Christmas cards. I'm sorry but I am going to have to outright steal it !

The short answer is, No ! You're not done. You're never done until you pack it in.

Some stunners there for sure. The fretless made my heart go pitter patter and I don't even play fretless...........yet !

Nice! Why did you go with bubinga?

I think you should post a family photo. :D

It's almost like A Lakland and a Warwick fornicated and these are their two love children.

Very nice bass, congrats on the new family member....maybe I'll get a chance to play it at one of the ChiTown GTG's?

    Anyway.......

More focused or selective in evaluating and selecting basses......maybe!?

    Done..........Not a chance! :D

IIRC, you're a big Lakland fan also....let's see what happens when the next round of special edition Laklands is announced! :ninja:

well....a few reasons....mostly asthetics. I was originally going to go Koa because i like the Fender Victor Bailey Bass but could not find a piece of Koa that excited me...

I spent about 2 months (off and on) looking at wood stores, wood store web sites and ebay for a piece of wood that "hit me".

I ended up with a bunch of different ideas (there is so much beautiful wood out there!)....slowly narrowed it down by look (and Carl's help on what would work sonically etc)

I really wanted some "curly bubinga" but could only find veneers in my price range...Carl told me to forget the veneers..he said, you want a "true top" not a veneer.

I also was told by Carl what size I needed to either book match or go one piece (these are both one piece tops)...

as such, I would send 3-4 pics to Carl periodically to get his opinion...

I found this piece on ebay and we both got excited....so i bought it and had it shipped to him

I find your last line VERY amusing...never thought about it that way but yeh!

they ended up kinda Bailey-ish if you ask me.... :D

All too true! All too true!

as for playing it/them? we will have to see....it is a Lakland GTG after all....and these are Carlos... :D

I may be convinced to bring them but would have to be VERY selective on who plays them....:smug:

  13. Doude, you'll never be done. Though I think I might see a change of loyalties in your future. those Carlos sure seem to be your new faves.

So uh... maybe I should start looking through your collection ;-)

good advice....maybe I will need a package of bibs nearby....and put the basses in plastic wrap? "look don't touch"...

    I knew what you meant!

    thanks!

actually have not had it too long...bought it used off the TB classifieds...played a Ren4 fretted a couple of years ago and was on a mission to find one at a "decent price"...this one popped up..had a few issues Carl fioxed and I have a GREAT bass....most MWAH out of any bass I have ever played!

love it....would like a fretted one as well....

oops! I guess that comment just made this thread null and void...didn't it? :ninja::eyebrow:;):help:

  20. I can bring the bibs. I have tonnes. They might be a little small, though...

    Kinda, yeah.

I have a yen for a Rob Allen, myself.
