Cover song suggestion

Discussion in 'General Instruction [BG]' started by E.J. T.N.T., Nov 7, 2013.

  1. First of all dear moderators, I am not sure if this thread falls under this category, so please feel free to move it if it seems correct to you.

So here is the story. I am playing in an all originals alternative hard rock band and we have been thinking about doing a cover song for quite some time now. We occasionally do two depending on how long our set needs to be. We are currently doing Meant to live by Switchfoot and Interstate love song by the Stone temple pilots.

The thing is that we need a song that is very popular, if not classic. Not necessarily something rock but something that could be rockified with a modern flare and if possible rather uptempo.

This is a snippet of how the band sounds:

Moreover here are some suggestions that have been turned down and the reasons why:

Iron Maiden-Killers too metal, vocalist in a different range

Black Sabbath-War Pigs too long, not uptempo enough

Genesis-Land of Confusion not popular enough

Whiskey in the Jar too common, too folky

Pearl Jam-Even flow not popular enough, vocalist in different range.

    So please give some suggestions.

We die young - Alice in chains

Good for your band, good for your Singer, great for the audience.

( how is land of confusion not popular enough? I must be old....)

    Maybe something by Bonjovi...

  4. Our audience is younger and we are based in Germany. I would actually love this one. I mean even the guys from Disturbed pulled this off :D

  5. :eyebrow: Seriously???

  6. Great idea!!! Let's see what the other guys say...

Well, you mentioned range so I guess anything by Soundgarden would be out. I was thinking maybe a classic Foo Fighters song, like monkey wrench or hero?

  9. The foo stuff would work but the guitarist is really against it.

    Cult of personality? Interesting...

I've only seen one cover band pull this off and I was blown away.
My Band does Reelin' In The Years and it's pretty Killer too.
One More> Polyamerous. I love that song.

  11. Our band covers Reeling in the Years. Great track but doesn't do much for our audience (and they're generally 40+). Two that move the room are: Black Betty & Free Ride.

  12. If you're in Germany, then how about something from Boston, or even Final Countdown!
