This is a custom-made thread for me! I'm convinced I'm about the only one who wants to hear the music I like, and I got tons of it. :)

Basically anything from Sting's solo career, post Police.
And maybe a few Police tunes as well.
Mike Nesmith's songs from the Monkees, yep the wool-hat guy.
    Stuff from Bruce Hornsby
    Level 42 songs
Stuff from XTC, circa 1985 and newer
    Tears for Fears
    Joni Mitchell
    Duncan Sheik
    McCartney Stuff, post Beatles
    Hall & Oates
    etc, etc, etc...
    ok, stopping now.
...all the stuff you're not going to hear a "bar band" do...

We actually get a good response when we do Low Rider, maybe because our guitar player plays the timbales (sp?).

2112 story - I was playing guitar at a multi band show and one of the other bands, who we didn't know, wanted to do 2112 but their bass player didn't know it. I stepped in and we did a reasonable rendition, bored most of the crowd, but the other bands and the soundman loved it.

I used to love playing Epic by Faith No More, but the crowd would never get into it. It further dampened my spirits when I realized that the song is almost 20 years old! Half the audiences we were playing to were either not born, or not even in kindergarten yet when that song came out!

+1 on getting a good response from Lowrider. I'm surprised someone considers it a tune no one wants to hear. For my old band, it was the Old Reliable tune to break out when we wanted to pack the dance floor! I got so sick of that song!

  16. I would love to do covers from my favorite 80's bands....Joy Division, Husker Du, Replacements, etc.... But nobody I play with has heard of these bands, and I doubt they will go over well in the bar scene.

    So Mustang Sally it is:meh:

I loved playing Toto's "Home Of The Brave" with my old band, but many times people started to rise or look at their clocks during the instrumental section...too bad...

  19. LOL!

I would probably laugh my ass off if I heard a band play that. It'd be great though! :smug:
